O what a night - dancing with strangers Lights on in dark places Call off the fight – you're in no danger Smiles on their faces Nothing lost by being ventured, nothing gained if never tried They'll never know unless you tell them, never find you if you hide Stand up, walk tall, take heart and make waves Stand firm, keep on – be brave! O what a night - dancing with strangers Lights on in dark places Call off the fight – you're in no danger Smiles on their faces No reward for hesitation; faint of heart goes home alone The simple joy of pure elation belongs to those who roll the stone Tune in, take aim, be strong and make light Draw breath, speak out, hold tight! Tune in, take aim, be strong and make light Draw breath, speak out, hold tight! O what a night - dancing with strangers Lights on in dark places Call off the fight – you're in no danger Smiles on their faces

Another place, another time, another test for a restless mind A fading dream of a time gone by, carried soft on a cinnamon sigh Looking back, your vision's blurred Searching for the sense in events that occurred Breathe the air deep in your lungs Turn your face to the rising sun. Watching cars rolling by; follow clouds across the sky Sunlight through your window flows; dry your tears, let them go Stand tall, your head unbowed You did all circumstance allowed Let go this feeling you're tired of Nothing to regret, nothing further required The place to be happy is here, The time to be happy is now Trees blossom and the water flows, The bells don't ring and the whistles don't blow The clocks don't strike, it's still all around, There's nothing going down in this old town So throw off your chains, you're free of them now Don't be afraid when the north winds howl Good things happen when the walls come down Keep on looking to the way you're bound Throw off your chains, you're free of them now Don't be afraid when the north winds howl Good things happen when the walls come down Keep on looking to the way you're bound

Nobody's dancing at the club tonight Turntable's silent and the door's shut tight We stand in groups beneath the entrance light Taken too soon We heard the news in the early hours The pain was theirs, the loss is ours Somebody marked the spot with flowers Taken too soon A boys' night out in another town The tank was full, the driver's foot was down Misjudged the distance in the dark The squeal of brakes, a sudden spark A flash of fire, a muffled shout Riding in the back seat, riding in the back seat There's no way out And when they come to try to lay the blame To understand this crying shame They'll write these words beneath your name Taken too soon A boys' night out in another town The tank was full, the driver's foot was down Misjudged the distance in the dark The squeal of brakes, a sudden spark A flash of fire, a muffled shout Riding in the back seat, riding in the back seat There's no way out And when they come to try to lay the blame To understand this crying shame They'll write these words beneath your name Taken too soon

I'm overloaded with that Friday feeling, Circulation pumping to the weekend boogaloo Washed and changed and ready and I'm heading up the avenue The 14 gets to town about half-past seven, I meet up with the boys and we have a drink or two We consider all suggestions cos' tonight's an open question And soon we have to choose what we will do We can dance to that Motown beat, Or watch the action up and down the street It feels like dynamite with a slow-burning fuse Bar to bar got to move your feet, check the style of everyone we meet Somewhere something's happening and we got no time to lose You meet somebody with the right kind of rhythm, She takes you to the places you know you want to go A shift of your perspective in respect of where you were before You wait beneath the clock about half-past seven, Feeling kind of nervous in case she doesn't show She's looking for commitment, your machismo doesn't fit any more She's opened the door to what life has in store We can dance to that Motown beat, Or watch the action up and down the street It feels like dynamite with a slow-burning fuse Feel the passion, feel the rising heat, Beneath the cover of a cool white sheet We know where it's happening and we got no time to lose We can dance to that Motown beat, Or watch the action up and down the street It feels like dynamite with a slow-burning fuse Feel the passion, feel the rising heat, Beneath the cover of a cool white sheet We know where it's happening and we got no time to lose Yes, we know where it's happening and we got no time to lose

In Amsterdam 05:05
In Amsterdam, I'm cold and it's dark; last night we slept in the park. Got to find somewhere, a place inside to stay. Met a guy by the snack machine: he said, “Come along, better follow me, I know a place, know a place that's free.” Not sure if it's a good idea, But money's tight and we need somewhere to sleep. Soon we're climbing aboard a boat on the canal; We've got people to meet. Four young men, together alone, found a place and made it their own, For today at least; when tomorrow comes, who knows? Made their money down beneath the bridge Where the businessmen look for company - It's a lonely life in the big city. They made a space for KC and me, We smoked and talked as the night slipped away. Lay down our bags, lay down our heads; But if our bed was free, there's still a price to pay. First light, heard low voices again; saw the needle deep in the vein, Saw the blood run down his arm and leave a stain. Cold reality drives sleep away. There's a change in the atmosphere - Chill of fear, may be danger here. Back on the street with a sigh of relief, Pulled my coat round tight to keep in the heat. That's when I found out that my money was gone, Three hundred miles from home and nothing to eat. Down at the station, a desperate plight; Begging for quarters for food for the night. Most people look away and hurry by; Some speak a language I don't understand. Then someone says “Hi”, an American, Plays violin in a rock music band. He wants to know how we got into this state, We talk for a while then he gives us what we need. They just performed on a TV show So they're feeling good and they just got paid. We bought tickets for the overnight train, We're going home with food to eat on the way. Blessings be on you, It's A Beautiful Day, I swear I'm going to pay you back some day.

Autumn Song 03:57
Fruit ripens on the vine, Sweetens with each shortening day As its bloom starts to fade But although the boughs bend, They stay strong to the end, Take their place in the grand parade. Young in limb, the vigour of Spring, full of the wonder of everything. Summer comes, the burst into blossom, the struggle to answer the call; And now the circle makes one further turn, Yet the story goes on and the flame will continue to burn. Sun sinking in the west casts shadows and sharpens the lines, Still its brilliance shines. And the dust steals the blues, leaving just twilight hues In the beautiful evening sky. Young in limb, the vigour of Spring, full of the wonder of everything. Summer comes, the burst into blossom, the struggle to answer the call; And now the circle makes one further turn, Yet the story goes on and the flame will continue to burn. Leaves shiver on the trees, crimson and deep golden-brown Then they drift to the ground. Before winter winds blow, one last dazzling show As the curtain comes down

In the parlour mad musicians playing long past dusk No-one told them how they free us, no-one told them that they must. Through the window, in the garden, watching shadows grow Evening on us warm and gentle, nowhere else to go. It’s a very nice place to be, a very nice place to be , It’s a very nice place to be when you’re alone. Lanterns grinning in the darkness, passionless, divine; Words in anger, high aggression, tread a thin, thin line Artist in an upper window looking for a view Paints the wall for self-expression, nothing else to do. But it’s a very nice place to be, a very nice place to be , It’s a very nice place to be when you’re alone. Life is fast, we leave no traces, travelling by light Lie and watch the patterns changing far into the night Cradling their pet neuroses, matriarchal clan Denizens of Goblin City waiting for The Man. And it’s a very nice place to be, a very nice place to be , It’s a very nice place to be when you’re alone. Oh it’s a very nice place to be, a very nice place to be , It’s a very nice place to be when you’re alone, When you’re alone

Cast your doubts in the face of time What if your path is the wrong way? Life is so rich and generous now All the noises are dying away Find your place in the space of years Be a breath, a shadow, a child Put your faith in the golden dream On the face of time is a smile On the face of time is a smile

He shivers, so numb are his senses, he tries and tries to speak. In vain he waits for no-one, there's no-one left to greet. And the world around him dances, I don't believe they care; They all wait for their chances, telling themselves he's not there. Did you hear about the lover? his friends are friends indeed. They gave him no chance to recover; they have their own mouths to feed. Old times, the sweet open spaces, a backseat point of view; Strange days are taking their places, some nightmares do come true. And the world around you crumbles, I've seen it in your eyes, As the guilty dealer mumbles and tries and tries to sell you lies. Did you hear about the lover? his friends are friends indeed. They gave him no chance to recover; they have their own mouths to feed. The strange ways of disillusion make changes constantly. I found myself in confusion, restored my faith in me. And the world around me shivers, they're fighting to survive. When the takers give back to the givers they will find themselves alive. Did you hear about the lover? his friends are friends indeed. They gave him no chance to recover; they have their own mouths to feed. Did you hear about the lover? his friends are friends indeed. They gave him no chance to recover; they have their own mouths to feed.

Long shot or sure thing? Foxtrot or slow swing? A blue moon for a hot date, too soon or is too late? Trigger itch or gun shy? In the ditch or riding high? Godsend or damnation? Dead end or sweet salvation? Pin drop – did you hear? Heart stop, cold fear. Gut wrench, the occasion; teeth clench, anticipation. Brains churn, can't think; cheeks burn – need a drink. Tongue-tied, I can tell no lies, Blind-side, took me by surprise Some things you can't control You have to let go, let the reins fall, Let the dice lie where they roll Some things you can't control: When the winds blow, when you hear the sirens call Breadline – to survive; deadline gives you drive Bad day makes you tense, hell to pay – no recompense Take out your frustration, scream and shout - no communication. Wake up after midnight; want to make up, but where's your appetite? Some things you can't control You have to let go, let the reins fall, Let the dice lie where they roll Some things you can't control: When the winds blow, when you hear the sirens call Some things you can't control You have to let go, let the reins fall, Let the dice lie where they roll Some things you can't control: When the winds blow, when you hear the sirens call

I go to work to pay my bills, To keep awake I take my pills The cash keeps pouring through the tills, I wonder where it goes I'm just a slave to modern life, I can't escape the constant strife My luck ran out and trouble's rife, That's how the river flows That's how the river flows, I wonder where it goes No-one ever knows, no-one ever knows I'm on the edge, I'm on the brink, I'm not as strong as people think I hide my fear behind a drink So nothing ever shows When I was young I eyed the moon, A dream that disappeared too soon I never held the silver spoon and doors began to close Doors began to close, so nothing ever shows, No-one ever knows, no-one ever knows The race was rigged, it wasn't fair, I needed help but none was there Cos someone took the lion's share, A rich man's wealth just grows The wave will break upon the shore, The tide will turn, the mouse will roar The world will shake unto its core, But when – nobody knows But when nobody knows, a rich man's wealth just grows No-one ever knows, no, no-one ever knows! But when nobody knows, a rich man's wealth just grows No-one ever knows, no, no-one ever knows!

April is the cruellest month, so TS Eliot said But even he would be dismayed how many now are dead. Springtime with its promises of better things to come Means nothing now to those who grieve, the traumatised and numb And now we learn to live, to fear the enemy within It prowls the empty streets for prey, dividing us from kin Silent and invisible, its deadly reach unfolds We hide inside our little worlds, our little lives on hold On desert ground a flower grows, among the thorns a rose Amid the dark a tiny light of inspiration glows Somewhere in this turning world a new beginning stands Use your power wisely, our fate is in your hands
